Meet Roger
Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist
Mr Roger Marwood MB BS, MSc, FRCOG is a recently retired consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with more than 40 years’ experience of working in a busy NHS Hospital. Roger has personally delivered more than 5000 babies, and supervised another 20,000 or so births.
Although a lifetime supporter of natural childbirth, Roger believes that with proper and honest antenatal education, appropriate interventions in the delivery room can be part of a fulfilling and amazing experience.
As a Gynaecologist, he is aware of the unique role played by the pelvic floor, and the importance of reducing trauma and preserving function.
He has also been a longstanding pioneer of the “ Gentle Caesarean Section”.
He is a past President of the Obstetric and Gynaecology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. For the last 20 years he has been a Senior Lecturer at Imperial College of Medicine where he has been an acclaimed and popular teacher and tutor. He has worked extensively for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and is currently one of their media spokespersons.
He is the medical advisor on the BBC’s adaptation of Adam Kay’s “This is Going to Hurt” which is due on our screens in 2021.
Roger is a Father of 3 and Dabda (Grandfather) to 5. He enjoys sailing, sculpting and swimming.
